Dear sweet Brooks,

We have been so lucky to have a really amazing summer filled with tons of friends, time with family and great activities.  I think it will make going back to school a tad easier knowing we truly made the most of our time on vacation.  I’m sharing images from my  ‘photo a day’ project that’s been so much fun for both of us.  You often  had a cute suggestions for the photo that I shared each day.  🙂

Our month started with a two week trip to Portland, Black Butte and Seattle to visit family and friends.  It was a total dream!

The ‘brown hair cousin from Oregon’ and the ‘blond hair cousin from California’ were finally reunited after 3 years.  It cracked me up that that is how both of you have referred to one another all these years.  The two of you instantly hit it off and quickly became fast friends.

The ‘slip n slide’ was such a huge hit for you two.

This is what happens when Uncle Rob is in charge of you two while the moms go shopping for the morning. You’ve got to love having a playroom where you can simply close the door and forget the mess.

I know this is totally blurry (we took it super fast and I didn’t realize my lens was on manual focus), but this is the house where both your grandmother and Jack’s grandmother grew up.  We’ll go by again next summer and get a proper photo of it.  🙂

We spent the fourth in Portland at Waverley.   We celebrated with a delicious dinner and great fireworks over the Willamette river.

We arrived at Black Butte ranch in Central Oregon. I can’t get over this gorgeous blue sky. feels so good to be back … the last time we were here you were just 9 months old

A little early morning playtime outside on the deck. While you and Jack were playing, you got to watch a momma deer and her baby wandering around!

We went exploring a little before breakfast this morning (and I just happened to have my camera ready). I could shoot here every day and find a new beautiful spot each time!

You weren’t quite too impressed with the visit to the very beginning of the Metolius river.  I thought it was beautiful.

More of the Metolius at Camp Sherman before the yummiest dinner.

I was also excited to share one of our favorite Black Butte traditions … playing on the golf course before bed.  It’s something I used to do and your cousins all did it when they were your age.

This was our view from part of our bike ride this morning around the ranch … the back side of the meadow looking the opposite direction was just as pretty.

We were both excited for our train ride to Seattle to visit Val Spring and her beautiful family.

Right after lunch we walked over to pike place fish market to see the sights with all the other tourists. Not much was happening so I asked the guy if we needed to buy a fish to catch one. He asked you and Lola if you wanted to do it, so you both jumped at the chance. Cutest thing ever! Remember … it never hurts to ask!

You can’t have a trip to Portland without a stop at Powell’s book store. You two were just a little silly on the outing as you were just reunited again after our trip to Seattle. All you ever do is laugh. And then laugh some more.

Aunt Lisa saved a few fireworks for our last night.

We returned to SD because you had a soccer tournament. Unfortunately, you didn’t bring your ‘a’ game and spent a lot of time on the bench … your coach was having fits over his (lack of) play. Your team got smoked … we knew it was going to be a long weekend. I was so thankful for the sweet reminder from Aunty to put things in perspective.

Day 2 of the tournament … you still didn’t bring your ‘a’ game … but you did bring the stink eye!

As it turns out, you ended up with a 102 degree temperature.  No wonder you weren’t playing your best.  🙁

Back to the routine of swim practice every morning.  It’s been such a pleasure watching you swim.  You work so hard and are so determined to do well.

You’re a pro at passing time at the salon with me.  All you need is the iPad and you’re set.

You totally rocked it at your first meet!  You swam all of the events for the 7-8 year olds and did a great job!  You have such a competitive drive.  This dive/jump of yours cracks me up.

Your new passion this summer was roller skating. We spent just one hour at the rink and you were begging to go again.

Of course I had to stop at Nordstroms after I did a couple returns this afternoon at the mall. You are an excellent shopper/bag manager and you adore the nordstrom cafe as much as I do. Your future wife will thank me for training you so well!

Thanks to Amazon prime, your’ new skates arrived in just one day. You was soooo excited to try them on and give them a go. You needed both of my hands to help while skating so all I have to share of this day is your sweet smile while you was putting them on.

A guy can never have too much protection while getting teeth brushed … they seem to help so the toothpaste doesn’t flick into your eyes.

With both of us having back to school dream/nightmares, it was time to do supply shopping for 3rd grade.

Second tournament of the month ended with much better results.  You and your team did a fantastic job working together.  I know it will be a challenging season this fall, but you are all working super well together.

We also went to Sky High for the first time … another hit!

Our month wrapped up with a staycation with your cousins in downtown San Diego.  We have the best week filled with fun … Bruno Mars concert (you are the most awesome concert goer EVER), a Padres game, swimming, more Sky High and Speed Circuit Racing.

So thankful to have you in my life to share this journey with.  You are so full of adventure and joy!

Love you to the moon and back!
