san diego family portraits | fifty-two on friday {36} laughter

This week’s theme for fifty-two on Friday is laughter!   From San Diego to across the United States … 19 other child and family photographers from The Bloom Forum and I have joined together to challenge each other on a theme every week.  Each one of us will link to one other photographer’s unique vision. Some of my favorite themes …  b&w,  shoes,  lovefashionalonegame,  eyes,  friendshipwater and summer.

This laughter post is a week late due to the power outage we had last Thursday.  We ended up with an unexpected 3 day weekend and the opportunity to spend my birthday in Santa Barbara!  Thank you to that worker that accidentally shut off the power to millions.  ;)

On to laughter …last September, the principal at our school promised to go in the dunk tank if the students met their goal on the state testing.  Well, not only did we meet the goal, we smashed it!  Despite everything going against us … budget cutes, higher class sizes, one of the largest special day programs in the district, and one of the largest ELL populations in the district … our API grew by 20 points.  941!!!

Last Friday, our community celebrated by dunking our principal!  You know that laugh that hurts your belly because you laugh so hard and for so long … that’s what it felt like.  It felt good!  Really good!  And I needed that today!  Brooks was sitting across the quad from me and at first I was bummed that I wouldn’t be able to capture his ‘laughter’.  Thanks to my 70-200 lens (swoon), I captured laughter perfectly!  In fact, the images of him laughing make me laugh out loud every time I see them.  Such a crack-up.

Before school started, the buzz around the dunk tank was full of excitement and smiles.

Love the crowd that showed up for the event.

Mr. R. was a wonderful and very entertaining host of the morning.  I love how he gently leads Dr. N. to the tank.

The children thought it was a good idea to add food to the tank … pasta, goldfish, and cheerios ended up floating throughout the tank.  Dr. N’s wife added the last of the box.

One of the funniest surprises was when the office staff came out with this bag of ice to add to the tank.
