san diego family portraits | fifty-two on friday {47} black

My parents were in town a couple of weeks ago and while they were there, we worked on setting up things for Christmas.  Brooks and Skyler loved helping with the tree and deciding where all of the ornaments should go.

This week our theme is black.  I was stumped again!  Then I walked past the tree in the black of night and it just made me smile.

Brooks had lots of questions and stories about the ornaments he lovingly placed on our little tree.  Our tree isn’t one of those fancy trees … we are so far from fancy … but it’s a tree filled with love and memories and traditions.

And it’s protected by clone troopers!  Every night when I turn off the lights to the tree, this cracks me up!

One of our December traditions is to see the Grinch at the Old Globe in Balboa Park.  This will be our fourth year.  I sat at the computer on the day the tickets were released and got us front row … right next to our friends, the Stanleys.  We can’t wait.  Each year we pick out an ornament to celebrate our favorite play.  Brooks was so excited to find it.  A treasure.

After 6 years of homemade projects, the tree is also filled with little treasures made with love by his chubby, sweet hands.  These are my favorites!

Next up is the wonderfully talented Kelsey Anderson-Las Vegas Wedding Photographer.
