san diego photos | just us twelve times | august 2013

I can’t believe that today is already the 7 day of school for us … only 173 more to go … but we’re not counting down, yet.  Brooks started 3rd grade and all of a sudden he’s so big and mature!  My first grade kiddos in my class look like babies next to him.  I know 3rd grade is going to be a magical year for him, especially with his wonderful, sweet teacher.

We arrived to school extra early on the first day to make sure we take a few first day pictures.  🙂

Head on over to the gorgeous Tamsen Donker of Creative Clicks Photography | Niagara Newborn Photographer.

Misty Setzler - Well you both look just perfect on your first day of school! I hope you both have a fantastic year. Love the top with the neckless!

Gail Pomare - HAPPY 3RD GRADE B.

Simply adore the lone wolf image, he does look like a BIG BOY now. Mac got put up to 3rd grade and he looks tiny – like he’s only there to visit his big brother or something. It’s kind of funny and sad.

A best friend, an awesome teacher and a super mama. What more could a boy ask for in 3rd grade?!

2013 fall session dates and specials

… finally!

What?!  Summer is nearly gone and school is starting up!  How did that happen?  It seems like we just got started on our summer fun yesterday, but now it’s over and it’s time to start thinking about holiday sessions.  I’ve got three dates set up for your family to capture those beautiful images for your holiday cards.  The mini session dates are scheduled to take place at my favorite places to photograph in San Diego … the beach, the park and the field.  Please note there is limited availability for mini sessions.

Mini sessions are booked when payment is received and time is selected on a first come basis.  I may be able accommodate a mini session at the field if these dates don’t work out.

As a special offer for those who book and pay by September 1st, I will include an additional digital image with your mini ($100 value).

I also have a special offer for those wishing for a custom family session.  Family sessions booked by September 1st will receive  the entire gallery of digital images for $900 (includes sitting fee).  Payment of $450 must be received by September 1st and $450 to be paid one week before session.  There are limited spots for custom family sessions.

Please use my investment link for more detailed information about sessions and pricing.

Please use the contact form above if you have any questions about mini sessions.

Dear sweet Brooks,

We have been so lucky to have a really amazing summer filled with tons of friends, time with family and great activities.  I think it will make going back to school a tad easier knowing we truly made the most of our time on vacation.  I’m sharing images from my  ‘photo a day’ project that’s been so much fun for both of us.  You often  had a cute suggestions for the photo that I shared each day.  🙂

Our month started with a two week trip to Portland, Black Butte and Seattle to visit family and friends.  It was a total dream!

The ‘brown hair cousin from Oregon’ and the ‘blond hair cousin from California’ were finally reunited after 3 years.  It cracked me up that that is how both of you have referred to one another all these years.  The two of you instantly hit it off and quickly became fast friends.

The ‘slip n slide’ was such a huge hit for you two.

This is what happens when Uncle Rob is in charge of you two while the moms go shopping for the morning. You’ve got to love having a playroom where you can simply close the door and forget the mess.

I know this is totally blurry (we took it super fast and I didn’t realize my lens was on manual focus), but this is the house where both your grandmother and Jack’s grandmother grew up.  We’ll go by again next summer and get a proper photo of it.  🙂

We spent the fourth in Portland at Waverley.   We celebrated with a delicious dinner and great fireworks over the Willamette river.

We arrived at Black Butte ranch in Central Oregon. I can’t get over this gorgeous blue sky. feels so good to be back … the last time we were here you were just 9 months old

A little early morning playtime outside on the deck. While you and Jack were playing, you got to watch a momma deer and her baby wandering around!

We went exploring a little before breakfast this morning (and I just happened to have my camera ready). I could shoot here every day and find a new beautiful spot each time!

You weren’t quite too impressed with the visit to the very beginning of the Metolius river.  I thought it was beautiful.

More of the Metolius at Camp Sherman before the yummiest dinner.

I was also excited to share one of our favorite Black Butte traditions … playing on the golf course before bed.  It’s something I used to do and your cousins all did it when they were your age.

This was our view from part of our bike ride this morning around the ranch … the back side of the meadow looking the opposite direction was just as pretty.

We were both excited for our train ride to Seattle to visit Val Spring and her beautiful family.

Right after lunch we walked over to pike place fish market to see the sights with all the other tourists. Not much was happening so I asked the guy if we needed to buy a fish to catch one. He asked you and Lola if you wanted to do it, so you both jumped at the chance. Cutest thing ever! Remember … it never hurts to ask!

You can’t have a trip to Portland without a stop at Powell’s book store. You two were just a little silly on the outing as you were just reunited again after our trip to Seattle. All you ever do is laugh. And then laugh some more.

Aunt Lisa saved a few fireworks for our last night.

We returned to SD because you had a soccer tournament. Unfortunately, you didn’t bring your ‘a’ game and spent a lot of time on the bench … your coach was having fits over his (lack of) play. Your team got smoked … we knew it was going to be a long weekend. I was so thankful for the sweet reminder from Aunty to put things in perspective.

Day 2 of the tournament … you still didn’t bring your ‘a’ game … but you did bring the stink eye!

As it turns out, you ended up with a 102 degree temperature.  No wonder you weren’t playing your best.  🙁

Back to the routine of swim practice every morning.  It’s been such a pleasure watching you swim.  You work so hard and are so determined to do well.

You’re a pro at passing time at the salon with me.  All you need is the iPad and you’re set.

You totally rocked it at your first meet!  You swam all of the events for the 7-8 year olds and did a great job!  You have such a competitive drive.  This dive/jump of yours cracks me up.

Your new passion this summer was roller skating. We spent just one hour at the rink and you were begging to go again.

Of course I had to stop at Nordstroms after I did a couple returns this afternoon at the mall. You are an excellent shopper/bag manager and you adore the nordstrom cafe as much as I do. Your future wife will thank me for training you so well!

Thanks to Amazon prime, your’ new skates arrived in just one day. You was soooo excited to try them on and give them a go. You needed both of my hands to help while skating so all I have to share of this day is your sweet smile while you was putting them on.

A guy can never have too much protection while getting teeth brushed … they seem to help so the toothpaste doesn’t flick into your eyes.

With both of us having back to school dream/nightmares, it was time to do supply shopping for 3rd grade.

Second tournament of the month ended with much better results.  You and your team did a fantastic job working together.  I know it will be a challenging season this fall, but you are all working super well together.

We also went to Sky High for the first time … another hit!

Our month wrapped up with a staycation with your cousins in downtown San Diego.  We have the best week filled with fun … Bruno Mars concert (you are the most awesome concert goer EVER), a Padres game, swimming, more Sky High and Speed Circuit Racing.

So thankful to have you in my life to share this journey with.  You are so full of adventure and joy!

Love you to the moon and back!

san diego photographer | just us twelve times | july 2013

Brooks and I took off for a two week vacation with stops in Portland and Seattle.  We grabbed these first two images in Portland during our 4th of July celebrations with three generations of my mom’s side of the family.  It was wonderful for Brooks to meet and get to know them.  This first one is one of my all time favorites!

We wrapped up our trip with a few days in Seattle visiting Val Spring and her lovely family.  After she picked us up from the train station, we went down to the Public Market where Brooks and Lola (Val’s daughter) got a chance behind the counter to catch a fish!  It was such a fun experience!

The next day Val shared some of her family’s favorite spots around town.  As you can see the view at the park was gorgeous and once again, Brooks and Lola found a great way to have some fun!
