San Diego Child Photographer | The Kessler Family

It’s been so long since I’ve updated my blog, I was afraid I forgot the log in information.;)

Here I am, alive and kicking, and I can’t wait to share this awesome family with you!  These two kiddos and their gorgeous momma were easily one of my favorite families to date.  As you’ll see, they were so much fun and had me laughing the entire time.

We only had a short time with gorgeous light before the clouds moved on in, which is unusual for San Diego.

I hope you enjoy these as much as I do.

What August Looks Like | 2014

Dear Brooks,

The images I selected for this month’s post make me smile so much.  The memories behind each set is filled with lots of laughter, joy and pride!

This first set cracks me up!  You and Skyler sat down one day this summer and tried out Bean Boozled.  I laughed so hard at you two, I may have peed my pants, just a little.  The video we have to go along with this is even better than the still images.  Priceless laughter!

We had World Cup fever all summer and loved cheering on the USA with Sky and the rest of the family!

Beach days with the family!  There’s nothing better!  The big boys finally had some time to spend with you and Sky on your surfboard.  You both got up and couldn’t have been more thrilled!

Soccer.  Soccer.  And more soccer.  Such a huge part of our summer and I wouldn’t have it any other way!  This tournament was even more special because you got to play forward for the first time and scored a goal!  So thrilling!!  Plus after being a finalist in 5 out of 6 tournaments, your team finally one this tournament!

Coach Scott didn’t think you were all celebrating quite right, so he helped you out!

Awww.  The first day of 4th grade.  You’re not too thrilled with 4th grade so far.  We both adore your teacher, but unfortunately there are kiddos in your class that make it difficult for you (and others) to focus and enjoy the class.  Your sweet teacher has to work extra hard and I’m sure it’s taking a toll on her.  I’m praying that things get better and that there is a bigger lesson in this year for you (and me).

Yes!  That’s rain on the first day of school … in San Diego!!!  So strange!

I’ll wrap up this note with images from the Pacific Coast Championship Triathlon in Newport.  You totally rocked this race.  I tried and tried to get you to back out of the race, but you had your heart set on racing.  I really didn’t think you were prepared for the bike portion because you just haven’t had time to train.

The swim portion was canceled for the kiddos because the surf was HUGE!  The kids had a beach start and then took off up this steep, long hill!  You totally tore it up!

Then you surprised the heck out of me when you rounded the corner on the bike (after a 6 mile ride).  There were 5 kids ahead of you, but they all had lightweight, road race bikes.  You had to work twice as hard on your mountain bike, but you did it!

You wrapped up the mile run with a killer split and a strong finish!  Faster runner on the course!

Congratulations on your determination and perseverance!  You always make me proud!  I love to watch you compete!

Love you to the moon and back!

San Diego Lifestyle Photographer | What ___ Looks Like | August 2014

It’s been such a while since I shared this project.  I snuck a post into the June circle, but this is the first time in a YEAR that I have participated in my crazy, talented group!  My post isn’t full of beautiful light and gorgeous images … it’s full of what my life looks like now … a sporty little 9 year old.  So, here it is, What Catching Up Looks Like | August 2014. I’ll add a link down below, but here is a link to take you to What Backyard Camping Looks Like | Deanna McCasland.

Hey there Brooksie!

We really don’t take photos like we used to.  These days, I simply document a little bit of your sports activities … soccer, running, triathlons, swim meets, etc.  You’re not too into photos (except for my treasured Mother’s Day collection), so I try to honor that and sneak the photos in when I can.  So even though this set may not be ‘art’, it is a documentation of us right now.  We just spent the whole summer driving from practice to practice … every day … all summer long.  I wouldn’t have it any other way and I know that as soon as school starts on Wednesday, I’m going to miss our routine. I’m super excited for you to start 4th grade.  I’ve spent the last 6 months worrying about it, but now I’m finally ready …. you’re going to be a great 4th grader! We’re starting this off with your team and their awesome run at State Cup.  You all played so well!1E7C6934-Edit1E7C69591E7C6962-Edit1E7C69641E7C6975Next up is just a glimpse of our busy weekend … Ironkids race on Friday and Carlsbad race on Saturday.  You ran two awesome races!1E7C69991e7c7035.11E7C7089We went to the beach one evening a little early for a client’s session.  You loved sneaking in a little swimming and I loved watching you.1E7C7138-Edit1E7C7147-Edit1E7C7371-Edit-21E7C7373-EditGet Air with friends.1E7C7387-Edit1E7C7400-Edit1E7C7435So many highlights of Spring Sprint this year.  One of our favorites was running into V before she took off on her race.  It was a thrill to cheer her on!1E7C7903-Edit1E7C79151e7c7945.11E7C79511E7C79661E7C79811E7C79901E7C80121E7C8044-Edit2nd place finish.1E7C8066You three are an impressive trio … two first place finishes and a second.  Way to go!1E7C8071-EditOn to a swim meet another weekend.  You’re not really loving swimming these days so this ended up being the second to last meet.  I’m really bummed that you’re not loving swimming, but I’ll try again another time.1E7C82281E7C82341E7C8265We raced from the swim meet to a Tri event.  It was so cool to watch the swim portion with the video of your swim.1E7C82871E7C8301-EditAnd more soccer … this time your team was a finalist.1E7C0249-Edit1E7C0252-Edit1E7C03611E7C0367Splash N Dash Aquathlon was probably your most favorite Tri event this year.  You totally rocked the swim and the run!1E7C8817-Edit-21E7C88251E7C88281E7C88301E7C8840-EditI love these buddies of yours.  We met up a little early on the last day of school for a couple photos together and with your sweet teacher!1E7C88691E7C8885-Edit1E7C8941Another tournament and another chance at a Championship … but you came home a ‘finalist’.1E7C89651E7C89681E7C89691E7C89771E7C8995-EditOne of your favorite events this summer … your first 5K trail run.   Before your RB Freedom Run 5K race, you said you were shooting for 24 minutes … we told you it would more likely be 30ish minutes due to it being a hilly trail run. well, sure enough you finished your first 5K race at 24:21 ... first among boys and 4th overall!1E7C90171E7C9019-Edit1E7C90241E7C90321E7C90351E7C90421E7C9048-Edit1E7C9052We totally know how to evacuate in style.  When San Diego was on fire, we went downtown to the Hotel Salamar for a couple of relaxing days.  We both loved exploring downtown and visiting the museums.Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset20140515-IMG_293220140515-IMG_296020140515-IMG_296120140515-IMG_2963Processed with VSCOcam with t1 preset20140515-IMG_2978Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset20140516-IMG_3040Processed with VSCOcam with x1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with t1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with t1 presetProcessed with VSCOcam with c2 presetBest of luck to you (and me) this week as you tackle 4th grade with determination and drive!  You’ve got this!

San Diego Family Photographer | The W Family at the Field

I’ve been photographing this gorgeous, fun family since I began my business 5 years ago!  We’ve done photo shoots at the beach, the park, a winery, and the field.  Out of all of these locations, I think the field was my favorite spot for their mini session.  I mean seriously … look at this gorgeous light!  And I love that they brought their new puppy to their session!  I’m already looking forward to our mini session next month.

I have one opening for this location for my mini sessions this fall.  Please let me know if you’d like to know more information!

San Diego Lifestyle Photographer | What the Mud Run Looks Like | June 2014

It’s been sooooo long since I’ve  posted to ‘What ___ Looks Like’, so I’m backtracking a bit to get myself caught up.

June 1, 2014 ~ Camp Pendleton Mud Run

Dear Sweet Brooks,

The last time I was at the Mud Run was the year before you were born.  I got together with a group of friends and we trained for a couple of months and had the best time.  After looking through photos of the Mud Run, you were super excited to do it!  All of the cool obstacles looked awesome to you and you couldn’t wait to do it.  The day was made even more special with a group of your friends joining us.

Even though I told you that it was ‘just for fun and the purpose was to run with your friends’, of course you ran this more like a race!  I don’t think you have a slower speed.  You loved it all so much, but you were quite disappointed that there were only two obstacles.  The mud pit was awesome, but you wanted more.  I thought it was hysterical that you wouldn’t clean the mud out of your ears because you proudly wanted to show it to your friends at school.

As always, I love watching you run and compete!  The joy you have for it just beams on your face.
